Module 4: Politics and Religion

The main aim of this module is the research, teaching, and overall understanding of how the religious politics in national and regional contexts have been determined by the historical experiences of the regions.

The module provides an overview of the legal frameworknational and regional specifics on freedom of conscience and religion – referring to the dignified lasting respect and continuation of the tradition of tolerance and religious freedom guided by the principles contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe and the United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and Discrimination on Grounds of Religion or Belief.

Thereby the module focuses on strengthening the conditions for the active and equal participation of citizens in public and social life, irrespective of their attitude to religion.
